The Medical Terminology course provides an introduction to the principles and language of medical terminology. Students will develop an understanding of basic medical terms including concepts of anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. The course is designed for unit secretaries, community care access centre team assistants, home care support staff and other health services providers.
Course Objectives
- Analyze medical terms into their component parts, state the meaning of each part and determine the meaning of each medical term
- Interchange medical abbreviations with medical words and phrases
- Demonstrate knowledge of pathological conditions
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical specialties and their services
- Demonstrate knowledge of lab tests, diagnostic tests and clinical procedures
- Pronounce and spell each term correctly.

This self directed course is divided into six modules with related assignments. The assignments must be completed online and are self-marking. There is no examination for this course.

Internet and E-mail Access
Students must have internet and e-mail access (either at home or at work) for communication with CHA Learning.
Students must have basic computer knowledge and internet navigation skills in order to complete this course. Please note that while CHA Learning does provide technical support, we do not provide technical support for internet and/or basic computer use.
Certificate
Students who complete all six modules and attain an overall average of 60% or more receive a certificate of completion from the Canadian Healthcare Association.
The six modules and related assignments must be completed within one year of acceptance into the program.
Registration
Students may apply online anytime during the year to begin the course. There are no application prerequisites for this course.
